George Machine gun Kelly
George Francis Barnes Jr. better known as machine gun Kelly was born on July 18 1895 in Memphis Tennessee, Kelly came from a wealthy family and before getting into crime he was a student in Mississippi A AND M College. At the age of 19 he married Geneva Ramsey. They had 2 sons. After marriage Kelly got incarcerated and Geneva divorced him for running in bad company. In 1927 after his divorce Kelly was caught selling liquor and he was sent to jail in New Mexico several months. After committing the same crime he was sent to jail once again, this time to the Leavenworth prison in Kansas. When he was released in 1930, Kelly went to St. Paul Minnesota with his girlfriend Kathryn Thorne, and got married to her that same year. Kathryn was also a criminal in her own right. With Katheryn by his side Kelly soon became public enemy #1. After several crimes, his wife got a machine gun for Kelly. Some people say that this was how machine gun Kelly got his name. They were two dangerous criminals working together. In July of 1933 Katheryn and Kelly made a plan to kidnap the Oklahoma oil tykoon and wealthy buisiness man Charles Urschel, and then asked for $200,000 in exchange for him. Wherever they took him they would take him with his eyes covered. The man payed attention to the sounds and conversations of his kidnapers, which really helped the FBI in the investigation when he was released. When the police found one of the conspirators Katheryn and Kelly went to chicago. Then the police found the couple and katheryn was send to prison in Cincinnati and Kelly was sent to leavensworth. Then after a threat kelly made saying the prision could not hold him, he was transferred to Alcatraz. In 1951 he was taken back to Leavensworth, where he died of a heart attack in 1954 .
